Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find time to learn the CRDP?

The course is designed to be readily accessible.  Total lecture material is about 60 minutes and can be viewed in segments.

Is acupuncture "real" or just a form of hypnosis or placebo?

There is ample evidence of real changes in brain function and neuro-chemical release in response to acupuncture needles being inserted.

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needling is not without sensation.  When placing a needle, patients will often describe an aching sensation at the acupuncture point.  This is usually transient and trivial.      Ear needling is rarely uncomfortable.

How long does it take to administer a treatment?

5-10 minutes to place needles, depending on experience.

How long does a treatment last?

Needles are typically left in place for 25-45 minutes, depending on the circumstances.

Is it safe to administer treatment during pregnancy?

We do not recommend CRDP treatment during pregnancy.

Is it safe to administer treatment to patients with blood dyscrasias

(ex. hemophilia, Willebrand's disease)?

Acupuncture is not recommended in these patients.

Is it safe to administer treatment to patients who are on anticoagulants?

We have had extensive experience with using acupuncture in patients on anticoagulants, including factor inhibitors, and have not had any unusual problems with bleeding, bruising, or hematoma.  The CRDP protocol is safe for this group.

What are the risks, if any?

Needle shock symptoms, as discussed in the course, are the only significant risk except for occasional bruising or trivial bleeding when needles are removed.  Needling is generally a very benign procedure.

When performing diagnostic probing of the ear, you may get a 'hot' reaction to an area removed from the ATP point or zone.  How should you proceed?

There are many other active points on the ear corresponding to other pathologies.  This is why accurate point location is critical to good results.
